Best time to visit Mt. Kilimanjaro: December-February, July-September

The Roof of Africa, is one of Africa's most magnificent sights. Snowcapped and not yet extinct, it is the highest peak on the continent at 19,340 ft. From cultivated farmlands on the lower levels, the mountain rises through lush rainforest to alpine meadow and finally across a barren lunar landscape to the twin summits. The rainforest is home to animals including elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard and monkey. You may stumble across herds of eland on the saddle between the summits of Mawenzi and Kibo. It's a traveler's dream to scale the summit, watch dawn break and gaze out over a truly great expanse of bush land.

DAY 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Transfer to Momella Wildlife Lodge for dinner and overnight at the lodge.

DAY 2: Morning and afternoon game drive in Arusha National Park. Lunch, dinner and overnight at the lodge.

DAY 3: After breakfast transfer to Machame Gate Climb to Machame Camp.

DAY 4: After breakfast transfer to Shira Hut to start Mt. Kilimanjaro Climb. Overnight Shira Hut.

DAY 5: Ascend to Burranco.

DAY 6: Barafu Hut.

DAY 7: At 1:00 AM, rise and begin the final ascent through scree and snow to Gillman's Point on the rim of the Crater, considered the summit of Kilimanjaro. Time, weather and stamina permitting, you can continue around the Crater to Uhuru Point. Descend to Kibo Hut for a meal and a short rest. Continue down to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight.

DAY 8: After breakfast descend to Marangu Gate for transfer to Kibo Hotel (day room). Enjoy an early dinner, then depart for Kilimanjaro Airport.

Best time to visit Mt. Kilimanjaro: December-February, July-September

DAY 1: Arrival Namanga or Kilimanjaro Intentional Airport and transfer to Momella Wildlife Lodge/Kibo/Marangu Hotel for lunch, dinner and overnight.

DAY 2: After breakfast you meet your guide and porters and begin your climb at the Maranga Gate. In 3-4 hours you walk the 5.50 miles through a fascinating forest to the Mandara Hut (9,000 ft.) for overnight.

DAY 3:
After breakfast as you climb you will leave the last glades and follow a path through the open alpine meadow, until you reach Horombo Hut (12,450 ft.) for overnight.

DAY 4: You continue your climb past giant groundsel cactus and walk on a lunar-like landscape, until you reach Kibo Hut for overnight.

DAY 5: About 1:00 A.M. you rise and begin the final ascent. For about five hours you will climb the steepest and most demanding route to Gillmans Point, at 19,258 ft. If you still have the energy, you can continue to Uhuru Peak 82 ft. higher. The effort is worthwhile because you will be on the highest point in Africa, dominating everyone. Good luck! After having admired the magnificent view you descend to Horombo Hut for overnight.

DAY 6: You descend to the gate and transfer to Kibo/Marangu Hotel for lunch, dinner and overnight or after lunch departure for Arusha or Taveta. Dinner and overnight at Mt. Meru Hotel or The Arusha Hotel.

DAY 7: Morning transfer to Namanga or Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Kenya Extension - 6 days

DAY 1: Arrive from Arusha. Transfer to Norfolk Hotel, Nairobi or a similar hotel or bed & breakfast.

DAY 2: After breakfast, drive through agricultural and farmlands, coffee, tea and pineapple plantations into Nyeri. Lunch at the Outspan Hotel, which was once the home of Lord Baden Powell, founder of the Boy Scouts. Transfer to the famous Treetops. Spend the rest of the afternoon viewing animals at the nearby saltlick water hole. Dinner and overnight at Treetops Hotel or the Ark.

DAY 3: After breakfast, drive further north towards the western slopes of Mt. Kenya, descending from highland foothills into the northern semi-desert country where people and vegetation differ from any yet seen. Reach Samburu Serena Lodge in time for lunch and afternoon game viewing. Dinner and overnight at Samburu Serena Lodge or Luxury Tented Camp.

DAY 4: Spend a full day in Samburu Park with morning and afternoon game drives. This is a wonderful opportunity to view the rare , Grevy Zebra and Gerenuk, which are particular to this area of Kenya. Samburu is known for its bird life. All meals and an overnight stay at Samburu Serena Lodge or Luxury Tented Camp.

DAY 5: After breakfast, drive to Nanyuki to reach the Luxury Member's Club situated on the slopes of Mt. Kenya for lunch at the famous Mt. Kenya Safari Club. Leisure afternoon. The Club amenities include swimming pool, golf course, tennis and squash courts, horse back riding on the forested mountain slopes and trout fishing. Dinner and overnight at Mt. Kenya Safari Club.

DAY 6: After breakfast, depart for Nairobi. Relax in the afternoon by shopping at the colorful city market. Evening transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for flight home.

Best time to visit Lake Manyara: July-October for large mammals; November-June for bird watching, waterfalls and canoeing

DAY 1: Arrive Namanga or Kilimanjaro Airport and transfer to Momella Wildlife Lodge. Take in the majestic views of imposing Mt. Meru (14,760 ft.) in the west and the magnificent Mt. Kilimanjaro (19,340 ft.), with its everlasting snow-capped summit, in the north. En route to the lodge, take a game drive in the Arusha National Park, where you can see Burchells zebra, black and white Colobus monkey, giraffe, buffalo and waterbucks.

DAY 2: Visit Ngurdoto Crater and Momella Lakes with their abundant birdlife. Avid birdwatchers are inspired by over 50 species of birds such as silvery cheeked hornbills, bee eaters and a number of water birds. After lunch proceed to Tarangire Safari Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 3: Full day game drive in Lake Manyara National Park where the tropical rain forest offers a remarkable variety of wildlife. The park lies between the Great Rift Valley escarpment and Lake Manyara with five distinct vegetation zones. Buffalo, elephant, lions (sometimes even seen in trees), giraffe and pink flamingoes. Full board and overnight at the Lodge.

DAY 4: After breakfast depart for Seronera, situated in the famous Serengeti National Park, where everything is big, from the herds of wildebeest and zebra, to the lazy prides of lion and leopards, which are abundant and often found resting in trees along the Seronera River during the day. Full board and overnight at Seronera, Lobo or Ndutu Wildlife Lodge.

DAY 5: Full day game drive in the immense Serengeti Plains. Ready your cameras for spectacular photographs of black-maned lion, cheetah, etc. Visit the hippo pool and see a variety of birds, such as secretary bird, ostrich, starling and Marabou storks. Full board and overnight at Seronera, Lobo or Ndutu Wildlife Lodge.

DAY 6: After breakfast depart for Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge via the famous Oduvai Gorge, site of the famous archaeological digs, where the Leakey family discovered the remains of prehistoric man, mammals and other fossils dating back millions of years.

Arrive Ngorongoro Crater, known as Africa's "Garden of Eden". Free afternoon. Full board and overnight at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge, Crater Lodge, Sopa Lodge or Serena Lodge.

DAY 7: After breakfast descend the 2,000 ft to the crater floor, the second largest caldera in the world, in a Land Rover for a full day game drive. The Soda Lake, forest and grassland provide a home for numerous animal species including the rhinoceros, zebra, eland, lion, wildebeest, gazelle and flamingoes. Picnic lunch in the crater. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge, Crater Lodge, Sopa Lodge or Serena Lodge.

DAY 8: Morning departure for Arusha with a stopover at Mto wa Mbu to visit of the local market. Lunch in Arusha with options for a visit to the famed Cultural Heritage center, or Maasai curio market depending on available time. Afternoon transfer to Namanga or Kilimanjaro Airport.
