International Flights Passports / Visas

Tanzania can be accessed by several routes. Most airlines fly though Europe. KLM Dutch Airlines flies through Amsterdam to Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro. Swissair, Gulf Air, Air Zimbabwe, Egypt Air, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and South African Airways are other airlines to connect to via the African gateways.
Ensure your passports and required visas are up to date. The cost of a visa is dependent on your nationality. Requirements for passports and visas change regularly - it is the responsibility of all visitors to Tanzania to obtain all necessary visas in advance of travel. Contact a diplomatic advisor before departure.

Customs / Duty Free Vaccinations
Personal items: binoculars and cameras, 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, 250 grams of tobacco and one pint of spirits (provided the traveler is at least 16 years of age).  Vaccinations against hepatitis A, polio and typhoid are recommended. At least 10 weeks prior to departure, one should have a MMR, TD, and influenza shot. For more specific requirements visit the Center for Disease Control.

Pharmacists are limited in Tanzania. Please bring your own medications to last during your visit.
Water and Electricity Currency

Water supplies are safe in urban areas and established resorts. Outside main cities and safari camps/lodges be sure to boil or sterilize water used for drinking, brushing teeth or making ice should be boiled or otherwise sterilized.

Electricity supply: 240V AC, 50 Hz. Plugs may be round or square 3-pin, fused or unfused. 

The local currency unit is the Tanzania Shilling (=100 cents). Money may be changed at authorized dealers, commercial banks or bureaus de change at international airports, major towns and at many safari lodges. Travelers checks are easy to change. Visa and American Express are the most widely recognized credit cards, while Access/Master Card and Diners Club both have limited acceptance.
