7 days - Momella, Mt. Kilimanjaro, Marangu Route

"As wide as all the world, great, high and unbelievably white in the sun was the square top of Kilimanjaro."
~ Ernest Hemingway, The Snows of Kilimanjaro
Best time to visit Mt. Kilimanjaro: December-February, July-September

Mt. Kilimanjaro at daybreakDAY 1: Arrival Namanga/Taveta/Kilimanjaro Intentional Airport and transfer to Momella Wildlife Lodge/Kibo/Marangu Hotel for lunch, dinner and overnight.

DAY 2: After breakfast you meet your guide and porters and begin your climb at the Maranga Gate. In 3-4 hours you walk the 5.50 miles through a fascinating forest to the Mandara Hut (9,000 ft.) for overnight.

DAY 3: After breakfast as you climb you will leave the last glades and follow a path through the open alpine meadow, until you reach Horombo Hut (12,450 ft.) for overnight.

DAY 4: You continue your climb past giant groundsel cactus and walk on a lunar-like landscape, until you reach Kibo Hut for overnight.

DAY 5: About 1:00 A.M. you rise and begin the final ascent. For about five hours you will climb the steepest and most demanding route to Gillmans Point, at 19,258 ft. If you still have the energy, you can continue to Uhuru Peak 82 ft. higher. The effort is worthwhile because you will be on the highest point in Africa, dominating everyone. Good luck! After having admired the magnificent view you descend to Horombo Hut for overnight.

DAY 6: You descend to the gate and transfer to Kibo/Marangu Hotel for lunch, dinner and overnight or after lunch departure for Arusha or Taveta. Dinner and overnight at Novotel Mt. Meru or Hotel Impala.

DAY 7: Morning transfer to Namanga/ Taveta/Kilimanjaro International Airport.
