Itinerary: Begin/end at your hotel. Spend a relaxing day in the Zanzibar Channel, the small isle off the western coast of Zanzibar. Begin/end at your hotel. Prison Island was formerly owned by an Arab and was used for the confinement of refractory slaves. It was bought by General Mathews, who built the jail in 1893, and which gives the island its name. While on the island look out for Giant Tortoise. Be ready to swim, sunbathe and snorkel.
